Chthonic (Taiwan Metal Band)
What i found interesting is the instrument used. Erhu is a very traditional Chinese instrument, however, it doesn't provide strong enough of a feel to the music. It's very violin sounding, perhaps the reason why it "fits" somewhat. However, what about more traditional, even less western sounding instruments?
However... the erhu really gives it a nice touch~ :)
I don't like the way they look though... yet, thanks to them, we've actually tried at this genre... :P

I guess the thing is that they don't feel natural enough... @@ I wonder how to make this fit with our language?!

Very interesting..
When I heard the first song, I thought Taiwanese people cannot do anything but pop when they take to modern instruments. The second and third clip were a little bit more daring though, and the poppy singing was replaced by a growling voice and the singing was diverted to female voices, which is a typical distribution in certain genres of metal. The second clip was a very exact copy of Cradle of Filth (not in its most advanced productions, but still..). The third clip I relatively liked the best, had the most drive and the least poppy elements in it. I do not find the Chinese lyrics disturbing, and I don't see why it doesn't match with the music. In Black Metal Music (and this is what some of their music could be affiliated with), the lyrics are only intelligable to those who study CD booklets anyways, so why not Chinese? Maybe they could carve out their "exoticness" a little bit more, could possible increase their selling point. The Erhu, or what we in Europe refer to as "knee violin" wasn't very conspicable, and apart from a stage effect, could have been easily replaced by keyboards, in my opinion. Well, but I've only listened to three songs so far.
The looks... I don't know, a very weird combination. One could say it's funny, but you could also try to define it as a mixture of gothic and glitter.
I'm not an expert in this type of music, there's only a few bands I dig in this genre (such as Cradle of Filth), and maybe someone else could make a more appropriate judgement.
